The first millennia of prehistoric animal sculptures have been found in Scotland.Historic Environment Scotland (HES) said a sculpture thought to be between 4,000 and 5,000 years old was found inside Dunchraigaig Cairn in Kilmartin Glen, Argyll.They were thought to date to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age and include depictions of deer.Hamish Fenton, who has a background in archeology, found them by accident.Kilmartin Glen is seen as one of the most important concentrations of the Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in mainland Scotland.Valuable as a source of skin and bone and antler used for various instruments, HES said deer would be very important to the local community at the time.
Dr Tertia Barnett, principal investigator of slotxo ผ่านเว็บ Scotland's Rock Art Project at HES, said: "It was previously thought that prehistoric animal carvings today do not exist in Scotland. although it is known in some parts of Europe.So it is very exciting that they are now discovered here for the first time in historic Kilmartin Glen.This extremely rare discovery changes the assumption that prehistoric rock art in the UK is mostly geometric and not figurative."Dr Barnett said there were a few more prehistoric deer carvings in the UK. But only other styles built in the early Bronze Age were "very schematic".It is remarkable that these carvings in Dunchraigaig Cairn show such excellent anatomical details and there is no doubt that they represent what kind of animal it is.
Mr Fenton said he walked through the rocks in the twilight. When he noticed the burial chamber on the side of the stone pile, and decided to slide inside with a flashlightAs I shine a torch around I noticed a pattern on the underside of the roof sheet that didn't seem like natural markings in the rock,As I shone around, I could see that I was looking at an upside-down deer, and as I continued to look around, more and more animals appeared on the rock."He said the discovery was completely unexpected.For me, such a discovery is a treasure of archeology. This improves our understanding of the past The stone pile is currently closed while HES is conducting further assessments and establishing measures to prevent etching.
